What is the difference between B-cell lymphoma and mantle cell lymphoma?

These distinctions are important, because there are many different types on B-cell lymphomas. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is one type of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Here's how MCL is different from other B-cell lymphomas:

  • What the lymphoma cell looks like under the microscope
  • The chromosome features of the lymphoma cell:
    • For example, MCL can be differentiated from other types of B-cell lymphomas because it has a translocation between chromosomes 11 and 14
  • The pattern of certain proteins on the surface of the cancer cells
  • Treatment options vary in how MCL is treated
